Buying replacement air vents, air registers or grilles can be overwhelming. For correct airflow you should always buy an industry standard air vent with maximum free airflow across the face of the grille. You should never allow airflow to become restricted across the face of your air vents or air grilles in toilet, bathroom, en suite and laundry areas.
Depending on your own personal situation, you may find there are rules against interfering with the buildings ventilation duct system, such as reducing the free airflow across the face of the air vent or grille, or by removing or adjusting existing pre-set damper controls and mechanisms. Check with your building manager or body corporate chairperson for advice and approval before making any changes to your system.
Restoring or replacing air vents, registers, grilles and dampers within an existing ventilation system is usually suitable as long as replacement parts are compatible with the buildings existing ventilation system. SafeAir technicians will re-set new or replacement damper controls back to their original fin positions to enable correct balancing of the ventilation duct system.
Our industry standard air vents, air registers and dampers are manufactured by Australia’s leading HVAC parts manufacturers and our custom design allows for easy replacement, cleaning and meet Australian standards recommended number of air changes.

If your airflow is blocked or obstructed – get it checked
Restricted airflow across the face of your air vents or air grilles can present the same effects as the grille being blocked or partially blocked. If obstructions are present very little or no airflow will pass through the grille and into the ventilation duct system, this allows air to build-up within toilet, bathroom, en suite and laundry areas creating poor indoor air quality.
Never remove existing dampers
At the back of each grille is a control damper (OBD) which balances and controls airflow throughout all levels of a building. Under no circumstances should they be removed. Dampers should be cleaned when build-up becomes present and interferes with control mechanisms and/or airflow within the duct, or replaced if they have become corroded, are starting to break apart or have missing damper control fins.
Think about the system as a whole
The roof mounted exhaust fans, ducts, risers and air grilles have all been specifically designed to control the buildings airflow and ventilation requirements. Consideration should be given to the ventilation system as a whole before making changes throughout the building.
